About Us

Heather Jobling created the firm in 1996 when she set up as a sole practitioner in Macclesfield. Simon Gowler joined in November 2001 and the following year Jobling Gowler LLP was established on 1 May 2002. Our third partner, David Mercer, joined the practice in June 2004.

Our team of solicitors, Becky Jacobs, Vicki Acres, Heather Gaunt and Tessa Whiskard, all have over 15 years of experience and believe strongly in providing excellent quality client focused advice.

Partners

Senior Partner, specialising in personal injury and clinical negligence.

Heather Jobling (Senior Partner) qualified in June 1980 and has always specialised in personal injury and clinical negligence. She is a member of the Law Society's Clinical Negligence Panel and a senior litigator appointed by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.

Heather specialises in high quantum cases and those of significant complexity. In 1998 she represented the Claimant in the case of Pickford -v- ICI in the House of Lords. She is a former president of Macclesfield Law Society.

Heather's expertise has been independently recognised by the Legal 500 and the Chambers and Partners Directory.

Partner, specialising in personal injury and clinical negligence.

Simon Gowler qualified in 1988 and specialises in personal injury and clinical negligence law. He is a member of both the Law Society's Personal Injury Panel and Law Society's Clinical Negligence Panel. Simon is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers. He is a former President of the Macclesfield Law Society. In his personal injury work Simon has a special interest in road traffic accidents and spinal injuries. Much of Simon’s clinical negligence work is concerned with orthopaedic and vascular problems and complications caused by diabetes.

Partner, specialising in personal injury claims.

David Mercer qualified in 1977 and specialises in personal injury claims. For 15 years he was lead solicitor for the Professional Footballers Association and its members. In this capacity he handled a number of high profile personal injury claims and has continued to handle claims arising out of sporting activity both in the professional and the amateur game. His expertise is not related just to football and his interest in sport in general assists him when dealing with sporting injuries. He also spent 10 years acting for an Insurance Company where he concentrated on road traffic accidents. He is now using that experience to benefit claimant clients.

David is the current President of Macclesfield Law Society.

Medical Negligence Solicitors

Associate Solicitor, specialising in clinical negligence.

Becky Jacobs qualified in 1991 and after representing claimants in personal injury claims has, since 1993, specialised in representing claimants in medical and clinical negligence claims. Becky took a short career break to enjoy time with her then young family, but prior to that was a member of the Law Society's Clinical Negligence Panel. Becky has a particular interest in cases of missed or delayed diagnosis and has significant experience of cases of utmost severity. Becky is a Committee Member of Macclesfield Law Society.

Associate Solicitor, specialising in birth damages and cerebral palsy cases.

Vicki Acres qualified in 1993 and has specialised throughout her career in representing Claimants in medical and clinical negligence claims. Before taking a short career break to concentrate on her young family she was a member of the Law Society's Clinical Negligence Panel. Vicki has particular interest and expertise in birth injury and cerebral palsy claims. She has recovered many millions of pounds in compensation for children and adults damaged at birth or as a result of medical negligence since birth. She is an active member of the Macclesfield Law Society and has achieved CACDP (now Signature) qualification level 1 in British Sign Language to assist in communication with deaf clients.

Will, Probate & Tax Services Solicitors

Associate Solicitor, heads our Wills, Probate and Tax Services Department.

Heather Gaunt qualified in 1994 after completing her training with a national firm of solicitors. Heather then went on to specialise in wills, trusts and estate planning, initially with leading firms of accountants and solicitors.

Heather has been a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) since 1997 and therefore has extensive expertise in inheritance tax issues as well as the drafting of wills, powers of attorney and trusts. Heather also handles a variety of estate administrations, Court of Protection applications and elderly client issues.

Associate Solicitor, specialising in private client matters.

Tessa Whiskard qualified in 1994 as a solicitor after completing her training with an Oxford based firm of solicitors in private practice. Following qualification, she worked as a solicitor in the finance industry with a particular emphasis on the personal customer base.

On relocating to her home town of Macclesfield, Tessa returned to private practice and specialises in private client matters. Like Heather Gaunt, Tessa is also a member of the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners (STEP).

Main aspects of Tessa's work include:

Tessa regularly provides talks on relevant subjects to groups such as WIs, Probus and Retired Groups. She is currently a trustee of the Rossendale Trust.
